"Starting Hand Chart"

Starting Hand Chart

Shark TAG PictureIf you happen to be looking for some miracle starting hand formula to win at NL Hold’em you will find that there really isn't any secret starting hand strategy. You will find just about the same starting hand charts on almost any decent Poker Strategy site. So, with that having been said, I am not going to try and re-invent the wheel on the subject. However, below I have displayed a starting hand chart/table that happens to be very solid.

This chart/table will definately help out a beginning poker player, it has very solid starting hand advice, I decided to call it “The Grinder”. Advanced players should have no issues with using this chart/table either, but having much more experience than a novice, can and should adapt it and make it better for optimal play and profits.

  • The GRINDER: I call it this because it is intended to increase your bankroll steadily with minimal risk to your bankroll. This starting hand chart and positional betting advice is very helpful BUT as you will notice it is very conservative and tight. You can definately build a bankroll with this chart but you will need great patience and discipline in order to do so. It is not intended to make you rich quickly, but to slowly and steadily build your bankroll with minimal risk to your starting bankroll.

If you think you have a better grasp on the game than a novice then by all means you can and should adapt this chart to your preferences, depending on your own personal skill level and post-flop experience and ability. On the other hand if you are a new beginning poker player then you should just start out playing with this chart the way it is and allow your feet to get wet, slowly making money and gaining some much needed experience in NL Texas Hold'em full ring games.

I should give you a little more insight into this chart, it is designed specifically for ONLINE "NL Hold'em Full Ring Games" and for Tight Aggressive play. I have personally used it many times and am very confident that it works very well pre-flop. I have had some experienced players suggest that they prefer to come in UTG with pocket pairs smaller than 88's. Honestly this is really up to the player and their poker experience and ability.

Again I would like to remind you that this chart is designed to be TIGHT & AGGRESSIVE, if the game you are playing in looks to be more profitable by limping and playing small pocket pairs UTG, then by all means do whatever works best for you. After the flop you are on your own and will need to lean on your own poker knowledge and skills but by choosing to use this chart/table you are off to a good start. .

This solid starting hand strategy along with the positional betting advice gives you a huge advantage over anyone who is not playing as prepared as you, just stick to the pre-flop strategy as best as you can and you are on your way to increasing your bankroll.

The suggested raising amounts from early position are my personally preferences and are set a little higher than what most other players probably would raise. I have chose to put in my personal betting preferences in the chart/table because in my opinion I have found that betting the normal 3 to 4x's the BB in micro and small stakes online games gets me in trouble more often than not.

I believe that the larger bets pre-flop have made an overall difference to the players who normally would just call a 3 or 4 x's BB raise with mediocre hands. Players seem to think twice about calling larger bets and if they do decide to call and try to beat me, I have adopted the mentality of "make them pay to play" because if I am willing to risk my money they aren't going to get a chance to get it cheaply.

On the flop I suggest that you continuation bet at least 75% of the time and at least 1/2 the pot, so that you give your opponents’ an opportunity to fold. REMEMBER you are playing TIGHT AGGRESSIVE poker and because of this you will be in fewer hands, so when you do get a hand you want to play it aggressively and make the most possible amount of money, giving yourself the best chance to win.

Go ahead and put this chart to the test. I suggest finding a fishy poker site to try it on, I think that Carbon Poker has alot of fishy and a lot of loose money floating around. I have put a link to this site underneath these charts. Carbon Poker may not have as much cash game traffic as the top sites but what they lack in quantity they make up for in quality, meaning they have lots of players who are willing to gamble with their cash.
